Most of the info I can find compares HAP40 to As you can notice HAP40 Composition, is a Mixture of Chromium, Molybdenum, Tungsten, Cobalt, Vanadium and Carbon, which offers great hardness and great toughness. zdp is a high carbide steel, it's basically 1/3 chromium carbide. You can even use regular V-TOKU seems like it takes a keen edge as easy as VG10, maybe even easier.
